Ceftiofur sodium inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis and is effective against Gram‑positive and Gram‑negative pathogens, including β‑lactamase producers
📌 Key Features
Dosage form: sterile powder for IM or SC injection suspension (0.5 g, 1 g, 4 g vials)
Concentration: 50 mg ceftiofur per mL after reconstitution
Indications: bovine respiratory disease, swine pneumonia, foot rot, equine respiratory infections, canine UTIs, etc.
Dosage:
Cattle/goats/sheep: 1.1–2.2 mg/kg IM daily for 3–5 days
Swine: 3–5 mg/kg IM for 3 days
Dogs: 2 mg/kg SC for 5–14 days
Adverse reactions: injection‑site pain/swelling, transient erythema; rare hematologic effects
Contraindications: penicillin or cephalosporin hypersensitivity, renal impairment, pregnancy/lactation — vet advice required
Withdrawal periods: cattle – 4 days; swine – 4 days; milk – 72 h
Storage: powder ≤ 30 °C; reconstituted ≤ 8 °C for 7 days; avoid light
