Hellebore Tincture is a veterinary medicine obtained by extracting active substances from the rhizome of white hellebore with 70% ethyl alcohol (1:10).
The preparation contains alkaloids, primarily protoveratrine and nervine, as well as resins, sugars, starch and tannins.
When administered orally, hellebore alkaloids irritate the mucous membrane and reflexively increase gastric motility and secretion. In dogs and pigs, they induce vomiting.
Indications:
🐄 For ruminants — to restore cud chewing and in cases of hypotonia and atony of the fore-stomachs, tympany and rumen paresis.
🐖🐕 For pigs and dogs — as an emetic.
Dosage and administration:
Administer orally:
Cattle — 5–12ml per animal or 0.01–0.024ml/kg of body weight.
Sheep and goats — 2–4ml per animal or 0.04–0.08ml/kg.
Pigs — 1–2ml per animal or 0.014–0.028ml/kg.
Dogs — 0.05–2ml per animal or 0.05–0.2ml/kg, 1–2 times daily until recovery.
⚠️ Overdose may cause severe hellebore poisoning.
Contraindication: hypersensitivity to the preparation.
Store in a dry place protected from direct sunlight at temperatures between 0°C and 20°C.
