Florinol is used in young cattle and pigs to treat colibacillosis, salmonellosis, staphylococcosis, streptococcosis, gastrointestinal, respiratory, and other diseases caused by microorganisms sensitive to florfenicol 🐄🐖
Florfenicol is a synthetic antibiotic, a derivative of thiamphenicol, in which a hydroxyl group is replaced by a fluorine atom.
Florfenicol is a broad-spectrum bacteriostatic antibiotic active against Gram-positive and Gram-negative microorganisms:
Staphylococcus spp., Streptococcus spp., Escherichia coli, Salmonella spp., Pasteurella multocida, Haemophilus spp., Proteus spp., Enterobacter spp., Klebsiella spp., Bordetella spp., and Mycoplasma spp.
The mechanism of action is based on binding to the 50S ribosomal subunit in the bacterial cell cytoplasm, where it blocks the activity of the enzyme peptidyl transferase, leading to inhibition of protein synthesis in sensitive bacteria.
