Iron dextran is used to prevent and treat iron-deficiency anemia in piglets and calves. A single injection provides the required amount of iron. Cyanocobalamin (vitamin B12) is used for the prevention and treatment of B12-deficiency anemia.
📍Indications: anemia in calves and piglets.
⚠️Contraindications: vitamin E deficiency, diarrhea, or concurrent use with tetracyclines.
💉Dosage:
Calves: subcutaneously 2–4 ml during the first week of life.
Piglets: intramuscularly 1 ml within the first 3 days of life.
