Polisan — Treatment and Prevention of Varroosis and Acarapidosis in Honeybees, 10 Strips

Polisan is a treatment supplied as thermal cardboard strips impregnated with an acaricide solution. It is intended for the treatment and prevention of varroosis and acarapidosis in honeybees. When the strips smolder, they produce a smoke aerosol with acaricidal activity against adult Varroa jacobsoni and Acarapis woodi mites.

Recommended Treatment Periods

• In spring, after the bees' cleansing flight.
• In late summer and autumn, after marketable honey has been extracted.

Application Conditions and Dosage

• Apply when the ambient temperature is at least +10°C.
• Treat early in the morning or in the evening, after bee flight has stopped.
• Use 1 strip per colony occupying 10–12 bee-covered comb frames.
• Treat affected colonies twice, at intervals of 5–7 days.
• For young bees in nucleus colonies, perform two treatments at a 24-hour interval.

Directions for Use
Before treatment, place a screened bottom frame in the hive. Secure the strip to a wire approximately 20 cm long. Ignite it on one or both sides, then extinguish the flame so that the strip continues to smolder. Introduce the smoldering strip into the hive according to the manufacturer's instructions. The strip must not touch the wooden parts of the hive.

After 1 hour, check whether the strip has burned completely. If combustion is incomplete, repeat the treatment using a full or half dose as specified by the manufacturer. Then open the hive entrances and remove the frame holding the strip.

Important Precautions

• Open the package only at the apiary immediately before treatment.
• Stop treating colonies at least 30 days before the main honey flow.
• Follow the manufacturer's instructions and safety precautions during application.
